Along with the correct magnet stagger, the pickups are pot waxed and come with cloth push back hook-up wires. We sand the flatwork, assemble, and lacquer the bobbin just as it was done during Fenders Golden Age. Our Alnico 5 pickups are smooth with a full bass and clean attack. Spunky is the high output. The round tone comes when you play softly, and when you hit it hard the attack and treble leap forward in the mix. Works well with overdrives. The California 50’s Strat Loaded Pickguard features Seymour Duncan’s SSL-1 pickups for classic Strat tone and all pre-wired for quick and easy installation into your Strat. Application Vintage-correct true single-coil for warm instruments. Recommended for country, pop, surf, rockabilly, blues, ska and classic rock. Description Our most popular single-coil for Strat. The hand-ground Alnico 5 magnetsand moderate windings (Heavy Formvar wire) yield a bright and punchy tone with vintage output. Perfect for players who need accurate traditional single-coil tone, especially with clean and mildly distortede amp settings. Compared to the APS-1, the SSL-1 has a more focused “bell” tone with a light bass response. Comes with waxed cloth hookup cable and vintage-style “keyed” bottom plate. Guitars For warmer toned ash, alder or basswood body instruments. Works especially well with rosewood finger-boards. Audio courtesy of Seymour Duncan. About the Guitars: We used all brand new Fender American made’62 re-issue Strat with a medium-weight alder body a rosewood board and a fresh set of American Flyer 10-46 gauge strings. About the Amps: We employed the “highest common denominator” philosophy in our amp selection. For clean tones, we used a silverface Fender Super Reverb with stock 4×10 “blue frame” speakers. We kept the Bright Switch “On” throughout. For crunch tones, we used a well-worn Marshall JCM 800 50 watt master volume head through a new Marshall 1960A Celestion®-loaded 4×12 cabinet. We plugged into the High output. With both amps we close miked straight-on with SM-57s through a Soundcraft Spirit Folio Mixer. These are the amp settings. Available mods Reverse wound, reverse polarity (RW/RP) middle pickups for hum canceling in positions “2” and “4” on the five-way switch. Cable: Single Conductor cloth – DC Resistance: 6.5 k – Resonant Peak: 10 KHz – Magnet: Alnico V Rods – EQ (B/M/T): 5 / 3 / 9. Download wiring diagram here.
