The California 50’s Strat Loaded Pickguard features Seymour Duncan’s SSL-1 pickups for classic Strat tone and all pre-wired for quick and easy installation into your Strat. Application Vintage-correct true single-coil for warm instruments. Recommended for country, pop, surf, rockabilly, blues, ska and classic rock. Description Our most popular single-coil for Strat. The hand-ground Alnico 5 magnetsand moderate windings (Heavy Formvar wire) yield a bright and punchy tone with vintage output. Perfect for players who need accurate traditional single-coil tone, especially with clean and mildly distortede amp settings. Compared to the APS-1, the SSL-1 has a more focused “bell” tone with a light bass response. Comes with waxed cloth hookup cable and vintage-style “keyed” bottom plate. About the Guitars: We used all brand new Fender American made’62 re-issue Strat with a medium-weight alder body a rosewood board and a fresh set of American Flyer 10-46 gauge strings. About the Amps: We employed the “highest common denominator” philosophy in our amp selection. For clean tones, we used a silverface Fender Super Reverb with stock 4×10 “blue frame” speakers. We kept the Bright Switch “On” throughout. For crunch tones, we used a well-worn Marshall JCM 800 50 watt master volume head through a new Marshall 1960A Celestion®-loaded 4×12 cabinet. We plugged into the High output. With both amps we close miked straight-on with SM-57s through a Soundcraft Spirit Folio Mixer. These are the amp settings. Available mods Reverse wound, reverse polarity (RW/RP) middle pickups for hum canceling in positions “2” and “4” on the five-way switch. Cable: Single Conductor cloth – DC Resistance: 6.5 k – Resonant Peak: 10 KHz – Magnet: Alnico V Rods – EQ (B/M/T): 5 / 3 / 9. Download wiring diagram here. The back cover still has the plastic on it. It’s wired up using the American Standard/Series wiring minus the no-load tone pot (instead it is three CTS 250k audio split shaft pots). Master volume and two tone pots, the bottom tone control for the bridge and middle and the 2nd tone control for the neck. If you’re unfamiliar with the Tex-Mex pickups they’re Alinco 5, vintage stagger and polysol magnet wire and overwound to roughly 7.4k bridge, 6.4k RWRP middle, and 6.4k neck. What I did here was modify the stagger, so they are now all flat and non-staggered which gives a nicer balanced output, especially on that G string pole which is no longer raised in relation to the others. In addition it’s been upgraded with a treble bleed circuit on the volume pot 1/4w 150k resister and. 001uf cap in parallel and Orange Drop. It also has the standard Oak Grigsby 5-way selector switch. Just solder three points, screw down the grounding post and you’re ready to go! It also includes all of the pickguard screws as well as the grounding claw screw, a brand new Switchcraft 11 1/4 output jack and a printout of the official Fender American Strat wiring diagram.
